The Shift Rapid Transit Environmental Assessment created the Rapid Transit Master Plan (RTMP) following the legislative requirements of the Environmental Assessment Act.
The process is based on a phased approach with the level of detail and analysis increasing for each phase. Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the process included the identification of the problem or opportunity and assessment of alternative solutions, including the identification and evaluation of alternative corridors.
The Rapid Transit Master Plan was approved by Council on July 25, 2017. The project will continue under the Transit Project Assessment Process (TPAP, Ontario Regulation 231/08). TPAP is an environmental assessment process developed specifically for the approval of public transit projects. The project team is currently undertaking pre-planning activities, prior to the formal commencement of the TPAP.
As the project progresses towards TPAP, the City and the Project Team will be refining the engineering design including Bus Rapid Transit stop locations, bus lane placement (centre or curb-side), conducting public consultation, and preparing the draft Environmental Project Report, among other activities.
